KMS Announces First North American PURON® Packaged MBR System
July 7, 2011
®®®Koch Membrane Systems, Inc. (KMS), a world-class developer and manufacturer of innovative membranes and membrane filtration systems, announces the first North American installation of a PURON® PLUS packaged membrane bioreactor (MBR) wastewater treatment system.
The new PURON PLUS MBR system will serve an apartment complex in Massachusetts and is designed to meet stringent surface discharge limits for biochemical oxygen demand, total suspended solids, and total nitrogen. The packaged system consists of two membrane trains each containing one PURON membrane module, as well as ancillary equipment, controls, engineering and technical services, and is designed for an average flow of 24,000 gpd and peak flow of 32,000 gpd.
“Environmental concerns combined with increasingly stringent wastewater discharge requirements are escalating the importance of wastewater treatment,” said KMS Director of Marketing and Communications Peter Bouchard. “Commercial and residential development is contributing to the need for prudent water management and creative technological solutions to treat wastewater from municipal and industrial effluents.”
MBR systems are well suited to both industrial and municipal wastewater treatment. MBR technology combines biological wastewater treatment and membrane filtration into one unit process, producing a consistently high quality effluent in an extremely compact footprint.
KMS’ PURON PLUS MBR packaged system offers state-of-the-art MBR technology in a skid-mounted packaged plant that provides customers with a full scope of supply, from prescreening and biological treatment through to the final membrane clarification step. The pre-engineered MBR plants are available with capacities ranging from 15,000 to 200,000 GPD and offer a reduced footprint, flexible layout, and a design optimized to meet most environmental discharge regulations. KMS supports each system with process and design expertise allowing for a fast installation and startup.
PURON membrane filtration modules are at the heart of the PURON MBR system. With improved membrane density and reduced air scour requirements, PURON modules are energy efficient, provide significantly lower lifecycle costs than alternatives, and are compatible with other commercially-available systems.
